UPDATE 30th November 2022: All directors must have applied for a ID. Per the Corporations Act 2001.
In recent years the Australian Government has implemented the Director Identification number system which will soon have penalties for existing Directors that have not successfully registered for their Director ID.
When people must apply for their director ID depends on when they first become a director:
Directors appointed before 1 November 2021 have until 30 November 2022 to apply.
From 5 April 2022, intending new directors must apply before being appointed.
